THREE TUNS STILL ROCKIN'!!!!! Confusion lately about The Three Tuns, Gateshead, with rumours taht the popular venue had shut its doors... Owner Paul has kindly provide the answer... "The Three Tuns Sheriff Hill. We suffered a lot of criminal damage and intimidation over the Christmas and New Year. £15000 plus of damage and it really got me down. I love the pub and the customers but it really got to me. My lovely staff insisted I take a break and I'm currently in the middle of that. The police are following strong leads with the perpetrator of these acts and the brewery have acted quickly to put shutters on all windows and doors for when the premises are unoccupied. All gigs are going ahead as usual and I'm currently considering my future. What is certain is that the Tuns will continue as the hub of North East pub rock for years to come. My current management team of Sara and Phil are more passionate than I am and will only make changes if they suit the ethos and add to the overall customer enjoyment. All 2017 gigs are reconfirmed and frankly after almost 500 messages of support I don't think I can do any other than come back but it will be when I'm ready to do so. I'm there as a customer enjoying the great bands and in many ways it's been great seeing things from this side. I'd ask everyone to continue to support what is an iconic local venue and make sure Sara and Phil get the support they need and frankly deserve". Paul. GREAT NEWS!!!! |

THREE TUNS, Gateshead,
CHARITY EVENT... It's this weekend our charity event for The North East Regional Ladies Cancer Centre and I just wanted to tell you what I found out today. The money we raise this weekend amongst other things will buy an ice machine so the ladies, many of whom are too ill to eat, can enjoy the protein drinks they are forced to rely on. Let's put petty disagreements aside eh and help raise this cash. It's not going to any corporate pot, it's going directly to improve if albeit slightly the lives of people who desperately need our support and love. I can't tell you how humbled I am when I drop in and see the fantastic things these wonderful people have done with our bit money we've raised and if you can possibly help then please do in this way.... Come along Saturday or Sunday and see some fantastic live bands (listed below). Drop us in a prize for the raffle or the auction Or, just declare your support here and offer some encouragement, remember we have committed to raising at least £3000 or the pub will make up the difference. WELL DONE! "The charity event held for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Breast Cancer Unit at the Stormont Main Club on Saturday 12th October was very well supported and a cracking night ensued. The evening raised £3,300 for this very worthwhile cause with the possibility of more when the final tally is counted. Every CD of the band sold on the evening went into the charity pot and resulted in £90. This was a sterling result on the night, of which the band are justifiably proud". Regards. Frankies Cafe |

The Rockin's "I'm organising a 10 day music festival in exhibition park from 9th to 18th August, the budget I have basically covers the stage and pa hire for the 10 days, so it's going to be very much 'local band orientated'. however, in an effort to find some more funding for artist expenses, I would like to see if any of you would be interested in sponsoring a day of the event, the money raised would go straight to the artists, you can even pay them direct and I would welcome any 'original' band/musician that you would like included on your day.. there's not much time and i'm hoping we at least have headliners confirmed within the week. I'm happy to discuss, meet with any of you if interested.. the event is called Newcastle Fair but the stage will run as Newcastle Experience and is going to be a main focus of the event, with the main aim for that to be the actual main attraction with bigger and bigger artists/budgets every year.. They will have a showground, market stalls, an inflatable village, community projects etc, This is a combined venture from Newcastle city council and the freemen of Newcastle who are the main guys behind the Hoppings fair, the hoppings will be back next year but they want this music festival to be another feature in their calander, any more info needed please get in touch". The
Ultimate Pub music event? "Bit bored of Battle of the Bands?, Showcase nights? Same old rock classics? If you are then you're only feeling what many north east music fans are feeling. We at The Three Tuns have been trying to come up with a formula for Thursday nights and we've decided on this..... Some will call it a glorified battle of the bands, we'll be accused ofprofiteering, some will sneer but we like it. Starting Thursday 6th June and running for 31 weeks we are announcing "The Greatest Show On Earth". 48 bands or performers playing for 16 consecutive weeks in groups of three. Each band will get a one hour set that must include one original song. These events will be massively promoted and available live on the internet. The best performance on each night will be rewarded with £100 cash plus the opportunity to progress to round two. There will be no judges but voting will be by the live audience and announced on the night. In round two the winning band will get £150, round 3 £200 and so on. There is a lot of money to be made. We are also going to be promoting huge incentives to get big crowds in for these events, we can confidently predict at least an audience of 100 just for round one heats. All PA, engineering, lighting and backline will be provided too. The Newcastle Eveing Chronicle will be covering the latter rounds and we're negotiating with local radio to play the final live on Easter Monday 2014. I want former Battle of the bands winners, finalists, Tuns favourites, new bands, popular local bands, anyone who thinks they have something exciting interesting or special. Contact me at psmith081@googlemail.com if you or your band might be interested. This event will cost The Three Tuns about £7000 but we aim to give it the biggest backing of any pub event in the north east's history". Paul - Three Tuns |

more than 100 yards from the Pitcher and Piano where the
general public can come aboard at around 1pm when we will
kick off our second set! |

Plugged
in...plugged out "The Three Tuns in Gateshead IS the most prolific live music venue in the north east. It is therefore difficult to come up with new ideas to spark our local scene but we have one we like very much.....How about playing your full electric set on a Friday/Saturday then coming back on a Sunday and doing it all again unplugged? We've asked our customers and they love it. So starting February opportunities exist for every band playing the Tuns to have another gig the same weekend acoustic. There will be slots of course where touring bands have other commitments so if you like the idea, candles on the tables and an attentive audience send me an email psmith081@googlemail.com There are bands out there who for whatever reason have had to cancel gigs at The Tuns, this is an opportunity to come along and play outside of the traditional slots (paid of course) the only criteria is that it's unplugged although the interpretation of unplugged is open". TUNE ARMY!!! Frankie's Cafe are providing the entertainment for a charity evening for Newcastle United Womens Football Club on Friday 22nd June at the Blue Flames Sporting Club, Benton, tickets are £5 each. This is to raise funds for new strips and equipment for the womens team who have to provide their own kit. Quite ironic really, when 5 minutes of one weeks wages of a professional footballer would probably cover this cost with relative ease!!!! Best regards Frankie's Cafe |

BLACK BULL BLAYDON
BLUES, "It's getting round to the time to remind all you lovely people about our next gig at the Black Bull at Blaydon. It's on Saturday 5th May and we've managed to get "The Lyndon Anderson Band" before they next appear at the Montrose Music festival at the end of the month! If you've never seen the band then you are in for a real treat. They have been described by Chris Simmonds (Blues in Britain) thus: "The Lyndon Anderson Band are one of the most exciting blues bands in the UK at present. Harmonica player Lyndon is one of the best in the business and he also possesses a great big soul voice" and Paul Jones summed them up in just four words "The band are excellent" so it promises to be a belter of a night. With the doors opening at 1930 to enable you to sample the latest fabulous beer that Carl has lovingly looked after, and beautifully served by Jackie and the Team, it also means that there is plenty of time to have a go at the free-to-enter Quiz. We'll have the usual raffle, with the usual prizes, and the usual jokes from Garry. In fact the only thing that'll be unusual will be if someone laughs at them! (Sorry Garry only joking man!) All this and at the usual rock-bottom cover of £5 on-the-door. We really hope to see you there!" Kev & Val, Garry & Helen, and Bad Bob! |

British Heavy Metal band Chaos
Asylum release their debut Album 'Into
the Black'. Featuring guitarist Guy Laverick & Drummer Phil Brewis, 2 existing members of NWOBHM giants Blitzkrieg. Based in the North East of England, Chaos Asylum was originally formed as a studio project by vocalist Martin Mcmanus & guitarist Guy Laverick. A self-titled debut EP was released at the end of 2009. Then to start playing the material live they recruited guitarist Colin Dixon, bassist Craig Stephenson & drummer Phil Brewis. Chaos Asylum have since gone on to play at the 'Bloodstock' Festival UK 2010, various support slots throughout the UK & more recently the 'Wizzfest' 2012 Festival in Belgium gaining them a strong reputation as a live band. Now Chaos Asylum release their full debut studio album Into the Black on April 16th 2012. Available for download at all major internet download sites (itunes, Amazon). The CD is availiable exclusively from the Chaos Asylum Website. See www.chaosasylum.co.uk for more details. With the Immense vocal range & song-writing talents of Martin Mcmanus, the twin-lead guitar attack of Guy Laverick / Col Dixon & the Power Drumming of Phil Brewis; the 11-track album has a relentless metal sound, with tight catchy heavy riffs and powerful melodies. You can hear the distinct British Heavy Metal feel throughout the album, but the influence of more progressive elements are evident in some of Guy Laverick's technical arrangements. |

KICKBACK... "....are pleased to announce that we have found a new lead guitarist to swell our ranks to a 5 piece band. Weve been working as a 4 piece, but decided a new lead guitarist would give us more options to play different material and include songs with 2 guitars or songs with guitars and keyboards. So we would like to welcome Kevin Hudson (formerly of Diamond Dogs) to the band. Looking forward to gigging as a 5 piece with some new material". |

Pink Floyd Sound play one off
trip to the north east. One of central Europe's top tribute bands, Holland's Pink Floyd Sound play The Three Tuns in Gateshead on Saturday 3rd December. The gig flanked on Friday 2nd December by a show at Steeles Club in Sunderland and Sunday by Durham Live Lounge is a result of an invitation to the lads to have a "holiday" in England. The band are in huge demand in Europe playing sell out shows in 15 countries and regularly selling out 2000 plus seat arenas. We got them here with a promise of English breakfasts, a trip to Bamburgh Castle and a walk on Hadrians wall. 2 of the lads have English heritage and it will be their first trip outside of London. They are excited by the shows as are we and a big thanks go out to Alistair (MotherEarth keyboards) who has singlehandedly arranged the shows. Tickets for the Tuns show are £7 and available from the venue. I hope the Floyd fans out there will respond and make this venture a success. The Three Tuns is endeavouring to push forward the boundaries for live music in pubs and alongside this Saturday's show by US Legends Blackfoot (still some tickets left at £10) we have gigs lined up in 2012 for Nazareth and Molly hatchet. - Paul. |

Search is on for Britain s best
blues talent - North East heat in Newcastle The search for Britain s best unsigned and original Blues talent is to launch on 15 October and Newcastle has been chosen to host the North East heats. Following on from its highly successful first year in 2010/11, the competition will give the winning band or artist the fantastic opportunity of flying to Fredericton in the Canadian province of New Brunswick to perform on a world stage at the internationally-acclaimed Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in September 2012. New Brunswick Battle of the Blues is searching for new and original talent from across the North East to perform at the Festival in the provinces capital, Fredericton . The competition invites bands or singer/songwriters to enter the first stage between 15 October and 15 December. Successful musicians will come head-to-head at the regional heat, held for the North East at St Peters Social Club, Walker Road, Byker, Newcastle on 27 January. All the regional winners from 4 different heats around the country will take part in the London final in March. Regional runners up will be put to a public vote and the public choices will also get to perform on the London stage. Says Lisa Gagnon, whos organising the competition in the UK for New Brunswick; The Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival felt the UK had a lot to offer in the way of exceptional blues musicians and we had the most fantastic response from artists all over the country last year. We want to tap into the blues scene once again and find some more original and unsigned talent. Last year saw the very first New Brunswick Battle of the Blues taking place and the winning band, 24 Pesos, have recently returned from their trip to New Brunswick . Says Julian Burdock from the band; The competition is a fantastic opportunity for emerging or established British blues artists to raise their profile, play on a world stage and experience the wonders of the Canadian maritime province that is New Brunswick! Bands or solo singer/songwriters can enter the first stage of the competition by visiting www.tourismnewbrunswick.co.uk. |

" BLACK ROSE , the Teesside based heavy rock band , made a fantastic return after over 20yrs at the Cradle Will Rock festival at Shildon Civic Hall . They played a storming set which showcased the bands history from when they first started in the early 80's to new songs off the latest album . There were lots of old fans in the crowd from years gone by and the band also made lots of new fans . Everyone said that Black Rose were one of the highlights of the day and put on a great show . They impressed everyone so much that as soon as they came off stage they were offered a gig headlining a festival in Belgium next year and a return at next years Cradle Will Rock festival , not bad for their first gig in over 20yrs ! The band includes original members Steve Bardsley on lead vocals/guitar and Kenny Nicholson on lead guitar .The band are looking for more gigs so anyone wanting to book them can contact them via the bands website http://www.blackrose-rockband.co.uk/ They are also talking about about doing a new album in the near future .The band would also like to thank Dave Chipchase for asking them to play at the Cradle Will Rock Festival which was a great event for heavy rock fans . NEW DIABLO
RELEASE We are delighted to tell you that the extended CD-EP we have been working on for a while now will be out at last next month! It's a bit special for us since it carries a mix of old, new and different! There are three tracks by Sickhoose - a musical collaboration between Davy (vocals, guitars and bass) and Adam Lee of China Drum (vocals & drums) which have been getting rave reviews on-line all over Europe but have not yet been available on CD. Two old favourites get a revamp - DIABLO's first ever recording "Subdued" has been remixed - and earned Jeff Lynne of ELO's comment, "Good song!". The rest of DIABLO knew exactly who he was but Davy hadn't heard of him! The beautiful "Runaway" has gone through a slight remix but with a lush new intro by Tony which lifts the song again. "Runaway" has not been available on CD since DIABLO's live album sold out and we've had lots of requests for it. Finally, and perhaps most exciting, we have a brand new DIABLO song called "Sigerson" which was written earlier this year, and carries a much bigger sound than we've had before and a lot of special effects! The CD will be just £5.00 and available from all of DIABLO's gigs. If you'd like one, please let us know and we'll put one to one side for you as the EP will be a limited edition. -Dave Drums DIABLO xx |

BLAYDON
ROCK n BLUES CLUB info "There was some confusion last night as FM's publicity had said entry was free, and this understandably disappointed a few people when they arrived. We at the Black Bull Rock and Blues Club apologise for this. There is always a cover charge at The Black Bull as we're trying to build up a great music venue with no cost to the pub itself, reflecting the current economic climate. We want a sustainable and great music venue in Blaydon, and we believe that a cover charge will help to ensure this and also make sure that those who attend are there for the music (and the nice CAMRA beer!) and the atmosphere". LAUNCH
NIGHT - SATURDAY 18 DECEMBER Black Bull Blaydon Rock and Blues Club Launch. The Black Bull in Blaydon has a long history of supporting and promoting good music, specialising in blues, rock and folk. A small group of us who sorely miss the old Blaydon Blues Club and enjoy live music would like to build on this by launching what were calling The Black Bull Blaydon Rock and Blues Club. Our plan is to create an old time atmosphere of a rock and blues club, with a modest door charge, good lighting, good beer and beverages (the pub is in the CAMRA guide!) and most importantly, great live music. The most important ingredient will be the audience, and we hope to create a network of friendly music lovers who will become regular attendees along with us. We intend launch on Saturday 18th December, and will probably go for one session per month depending on the availability of the bands we book. Were keen to ask those in attendance about what sort of music theyd like to see, and the potential door charge, so we need as many people as possible in on December 18th. Who have got booked in so far? The Bandits
(http://www.rhythm-bandits.co.uk) plus friends and
support. |

THE
FORCE - End of an era "It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Mick Kerrigan and The Force have mutually agreed to part. Mick made his debut as drummer at The Office, South Shields on 25th July 2003, and quickly became a favourite on the local music scene. We wish to thank Mick for great times both on and off the stage. For all the madcap tomfoolery and giggles and most of all his friendship. Long may that continue. We hope that he's soon well enough to get another band up and running, and we look forward to offering our support to whatever project he undertakes. Thanks mate, best wishes". "And the beginning of a New one It is with great pleasure that we announce our new drummer is to be Geordie Clarke from Black Rose/Lovedrive. Geordie put in a lot of preparation to be able to cover during Mick's convalescence, and he has been offered the post indefinitely. This takes the band into an exciting new era, and we can't wait to begin rehearsals and tackle some much needed new material. All gigs on our listings are going ahead as normal. Please try and make it to one of our shows and welcome Geordie onboard". The Force and crew. |

SLACK
RATS NEW LINE-UP "South Shields rockabilly punkers can now confirm the acquisition of a new drummer to step into Roxy Skinflint's shoes. 18 year old Billy Rat from Southern Shields will be pounding the skins for The Slack Rats. The band have had a great deal of trouble securing gigs and even rehearsals due to Roxy's very busy calendar with Skinflint and him living so far away from Scotti and Fergie. So the trio came to a mutual decision to find a replacement for Roxy, whilst Roxy will remain a dep drummer and member of the band for the forseeable future. So ain't no one been fired, ain't no one quit, but we now have the choice of 2 totally different but excellent drummers. Sadly, as is the way of the world, rehearsals with 'Billy the Kid' have been held up due to a shoulder injury sustained by Double-bass player, Fergie Rat, during his day job. The Slack Rats are hoping to be back on the road ASAP with a new set, new lease of life and hopefully playing a lot more regularly. The band may be wanting to showcase the new line up with some support gigs, under a pseudonym. any bands willing to let The Rats jump up and play 30-40mins at a local show, can contact theslackrats@blueyonder.co.uk - Scotti |

"My name is Steve Bardsley and I'm the lead singer with UK nwobhm band Black Rose. Following the release of our new album ' Cure For Your Disease ' which is available to download now from all the major music stores, we would like to announce that our original guitarist Kenny Nicholson has now joined the band to prepare for forthcoming gigs to promote the album. We are seeking a second guitarist to join us and anybody wishing to apply can send their details to : blackrose.rockband@googlemail.com When the band starts gigging they will be playing a set consisting of Black Rose material dating right back to that first demo, up to the latest stuff from the new album". WILD Band 'Wild' were formed by my partner, Kimberley, and myself in January and have started gigging in April. We are about to take a month break to form a second set list. The band Wild are a female-fronted Rock/Punk/Pop band that covers the likes of The Buzzcocks, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Free, Ramone, Kasabian, The Killers, Feeder, Muse, Bryan Adams, The Clash, The Sex Pistols etc. We hope to go slighty heavier when we have built up a fan base. The band are located in East Durham, and at the moment are limited to playing that area until we get a van. Two upcoming gigs that we are looking forward to are: Masons Arms, Easington Village - Sunday 13th June 2010 Pemberton Arms, Cold Heseldon - Friday 30th July 2010 If anyone would like to book the band, my contact number is 07722069596. The
Benton Blues Club, "Sadly we had another poor turnout for our last Blues event, Paul Rose was supported by Gypsy Dave Smith and those that were there had a great night. On Friday 21st May we have a trio coming up from London, Spikedrivers create a delicate soundscape of the delta right before your ears. A truly professional set of gifted musicians, I saw them play last year and they were amazing. My friend and yours, Johnny Whitehill will support them with his trio. Probably the best unsigned guitarist in the country. A stadium/festival band, a red hot support trio, in a comfortable setting , all for a fiver, whats there not to like here ? You will miss an excellent lineup if you dont catch this gig and to be truthfull if the turnouts dont pick up the Blues Club will fail. If you cant get to the gig let your mates know about us, so we can continue presenting you the best live Blues acts". Graham |

"Hello Dave, can you put this up on
your page for me, i am trying to get the word out! I am just sending this out to let you know that I have a superb PA system available for hire at good rates, up to 10k, with all good quality gear, mixing desks, mics, etc etc, even a full backline including drums. I also have a tour van, seats 8 plus driver, with room for full backline and rig, ideal for those bands and artistes finding difficulty with vehicles/drivers/keeping off the drink etc! I myself specialize in festival organisation, and would be happy to help out , or fully organise any events that you have offered, from sound to lighting, artist booking to sweeping up afterwards. I am realistic about prices in the current climate, and understand that everyone has to make something, so you will be pleasantly surprised at my quotes!. I am fully insured, all kit is PAT tested (not the drum kit), and I currently supply to amongst others, Newcastle City Council, and have organised and supplied PA to most of Newcastles venues. I look forward to hearing from you" Thanks Tony 07803026503 |

Well what can you say, four great acts a room full of people having a great time and around £2.5k raised for charity. The night was started in great style by New Found Paradise (so much talent in ones so young) and carried on in the same vain by White Afro). Then came Russ Tippins and what can you say - a terrific set which was hugely enjoyed by all there. This set things up nicely for a debut from Thyn Lizzy who rounded the night off in sensational style belting out all the Lizzy favourites as if they'd played them for years. Many
tanks to everyone who made the night a great
success. |

MAYFAIR BACK... And I'm so glad that you did because; DIANE: THE GODDESS OF ROCK HAS DONE IT AGAIN. We have a venue; it's not in the town, but it's a short bus ride to the quayside. anyone remember the 'frog and furkin' just around the corner from the law courts? Well it's now called Stereo and it's our new home! I'm finalising dates coz it will be just when there is a free Saturday a.t.m. but come the new year we can have the Last Saturday of Every Month. The venue itself is perfect; it holds 500 in all, so plenty room for expansion, it has a decent dance floor and a quiet area, and as for all you smokers who had to live with the fear of the lift, well, you get your very own smoker's balcony!!! Not only that, we will have a 2am finish coz it's a night club. I have copy and pasted a link to google map below so you can see where it is and I'm checking the busses out (the yellow electric busses go from opposite the Percy to the law courts) So it's all starting to happen. Watch this space for the first date". All My Love, Diane X |

TOP DOG! "The charity night at the Barking Dog on 22/11 raised £2,950.00 in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance. It was a tremendous night of entertainment with great sets from Creature, Lady Ann (was it really their first gig), Remedy and a barnstorming end to the night from Heavy Load. It really was a joy to see four local bands provide so much pleasure to a sell out audience who in turn parted with their credit crunched cash to support this worthy cause. Thanks also to Zodiac Ltd, Helifix Ltd, Freudenberg, LWC Drinks and McNulty Staff Charity Fund for supporting the event. The PA for the evening was provided by Jason at Ahead Music. SUCCESS Sticky Fingers were well Sticky Fingers hugely talented musicians who thoroughly enjoy what they do and make sure they audience do to. We can't thank them enough. Creature next, so much talent for ones so young they played a great set and entertained for an hour and a half. They really do deserve more bookings and anyone who does won't be disappointed I'm sure. Finally Sundance and what can I say, these lads are tremendous kept waiting they never moaned and then proceeded to pay tribute to Hendrix like I've never seen before. Anyone with a liking for Hendrix really needs to see this band and those not so keen should give them a try. They might just change your mind. Thanks to Q music for the PA Newcastle Drum Centre For the Drum Kit and Special thanks to Bod of North East Ventilation For sponsoring the event. Tubesnake Give Their Support to The Beamish Mary "The Beamish Mary Inn in No Place, Stanley, historically, is known for great food and real-ale (won many awards) and, at one time, for being a GREAT MUSIC venue with bands playing there twice a week. Music has not been a real feature at The Beamish for quite a while now, with just a handful of gigs over the last few years, typically organised by the bands themselves (us included). However, the venue now hopes to re-introduce regular gigs each Thursday and Saturday night, the way it used to be for over 10 years. This may take a little while to establish but we've offered our support to this favourite venue of ours that has hosted Tubesnake from its' first line up back in 1992 through to our last gig there in December 2007. Bands wishing to play there should contact Sally (07821 678919). She's looking for THURSDAYS and SATURDAYS only ... starting from Saturday 2nd August 2008 up to the end of the year. Because this is just getting off the ground - the pub will pay £50 to add to whatever you take on the door (we're putting £2 on the door), this of course should improve if bands start playing there regularly. We've already committed to a few gigs for 2008 opening up with a special Sunday afternoon gig there on 27th July at 4pm". Cheers. Lenny (Tubesnake). |

"At a time when many music venues seem to be closing down it would seem worthwhile giving a mention to a new venue. The JOLLY MILLER in Low Fell has started a Saturday night band night. They have already had 2 great bands - Knee Jerk Reaction and the Acoustic Beatles on. We (RELOAD) are playing there this Saturday (17th) and it looks like a great place to play, with owners who are making a real effort. So if you would like to try out a new venue why not pop along on Saturday. They have a great line -up for the rest of the year and hopefully this will help it become an established venue" - Neil ( RELOAD) |

Not only is Livewire the hardest working AC/DC tribute in the country but it is also unique in that it pays homage to both eras of the mighty AC/DC with two individual singers representing both Bon Scott and Brian Johnson . So, whether you are a Bon or Brian fan you will get the best of both worlds with Livewire from such classics as Livewire, Rosie and Let there be rock .right through to Back in black, Thunderstruck and ?For those about to rock?. TOKYO ROSE CD Tokyo Rose were formed way back in 1980 and were one of the many North East bands which exploded on to the NWOBHM scene in the early 1980's. The bands first single 'Dry Your Eyes' is apparently selling on certain websites for £120. You
can hear that single on the bands re-mastered 'Tokyo
Rose' CD, where you can listen to 15 tracks which
cover a wide range of music styles with a very 80's feel.
Another track on the cd is a song called 'My Place' and

It will be run at all times like a gig, not a social club, so there'll be no meat draw or bingo at half time. It is promoted independently of the club, and there will be a modest entry fee, although of course everybody will benefit from very appealing bar prices. Room capacity is 250 - 300. Good stage. WHEY! That'll dee nicely!!! Daz McCourt and his new AC/DC band WHEY AYE C/DC got off to a flying start at their official debut gig at the well attended Pemberton Arms, Seaham on Friday night. The people who turned out at this short announced gig were treated to two hours of pure entertainment. The back line of the band -Chris (Bass), Neil (Drums) and Dean (Rhythm) all played their part in creating the feel of an AC/DC sound, but, of course, it's the main focal point of the band Daz (Johnson) and Graham (Angus), who are as close to the real thing you'll probably get, who give the show. The two of them didn't stop the showmanship all night, verified by the clothes they wore, drenched in sweat - Daz's cap being wrung out at the end!. A
great return to the local music scene for the band and
fans of AC/DC... |

Captain Rocks The Oddballs and Tommy Returns!! "The legendary Steve (Captain Rock) Wright will be fronting The Oddballs this Friday at Steels Club in Sunderland. Following temp vocalist Rich's return to KJR duties Jeff Oddball remembered a drunken post gig promise made to him by The Captain earlier this year and took him up on it. "Steve, who is a renowned musical whore, was more than willing to help us out". In usual Oddball fashion there will be no rehearsal so it's straight in at the deep end for The Captain! Then Saturday sees the band return to The George Stephenson and it is hoped this will also mark the return to performing for Tommy who has been in semi-retirement since the tragic events earlier this year. "It will be amazing if it all comes together on Saturday night as we will have two of the regions most flamboyant and entertaining frontmen on stage with us". -Jeff (Oddball) |

Shouldering His Bat! "Annfield Plain Cricket Club is proud to announce a real rock coup in it's coming programme. The legendary guitarist Peter Shoulder has agreed to do a one-off concert at the club to remember times past so to speak. Peter and his then band The Blue Shoulders appeared at APCC on three occasions when they were aged between 14 and 17 using us as a launchpad so to speak. Since then Peter has gone on to prove what we all could see then - the potential to become a world great guitarist. He has had a substantial contract from Sony and been recording with a London based band called Winterville. Before he was out of his teens he was attracting comparisons to Clapton and Hendrix, and Winterville have already toured with blues rockers Thin Lizzy and Thunder. Peter appeared at the Stanley Blues Festival and wowed the crowds. Reviews are stunning: "Let me just start by saying ... wow. This guy, Peter Shoulder can shred on a guitar like he has been playing since he was in the womb" "Peter Shoulder who could give Alvin Lee a run for his fast playing money. No mean vocalist either, he is surely one of the most talented young guitarists around thrilling with scintillating playing that never lets up for a second." I remember back then the stunned silence of the knowledgeable audience the very first time that Pete appeared and the roars of appreciation with people standing up at the end of the night in tribute to the young prodigy. So he's remembered us and will be performing at the club on Saturday 31st March - thanks Peter. Limited tickets go on sale from Saturday when 'The Precious Things' are appearing live and can be purchased at £3 each - our number is 01207 234619 to reserve yours". Steve APCC |

LORNE LEAVES BACK IN BLACK! Shock news that Lorne Shippen who 'plays' Angus Young in AC/DC tribute BACK IN BLACK plays his last gig with the band at The Blyth XXXX Crew bash at the (Golden) Eagle, Blyth this Friday night. "[Lorne]...has decided to leave the band for pastures new, but we've managed to secure the help of Graham - who plays Angus in the top Scottish AC/DC tribute VOLTS (formerly Bons Balls). Graham will be playing with us for any upcoming gigs we have and we'd like to thank him for his help" is the statement on the bands website. Take

Some of you rock fans out there, may remember a band called BRASS ALLEY, who were very popular around the North-East pub and club scene back in the 70's. ARMS STILL PUTTING ON LIVE BANDS! |
||
We turned up at The Wooden Doll, on Saturday to find that The BANDITS had |
||
been re-united with Rory Typhoon! Rory who left the band almost two years ago, had turned up at the previous evenings gig at Washington Football Club and asked his old band mates Bad Bob Bates, Whalebone Pete and Brad Dolphin, if he could play! Another exceptional gig from the lads at this great little venue in North Shields, was only marred by the low turnout of punters. |

ENGLAND settle on line-up! |

v Spokesman Mark Craig says "...I think it is the best the band has ever sounded. Graham is a fantastic addition to the band and fits in great. Alan will be doing all the Maiden gigs from now on and will be joining as a full time member. He will still be a full time member of Skinflint and will run both bands side by side". |
|
The band played another blinder of a gig at The Office last week, and the new drummer fitted in really well, with the band look more relaxed knowing they've now got a settled line-up. |

Long Live Rock n Roll... Ronnie James Dio hit the Toon last night and put on a superb show for the packed out Newcastle University crowd. Two hours of solid rock, from the vaults of Dio's career through Rainbow, Black Sabbath and the entire Dio album Holy Diver. With a great set of musicians behind him, (what a guitarist in stand-in Doug Aldrich!) Dio showed what a powerful voice he still has as he belted out classic tracks including 'Tarot Woman' and 'Heaven and Hell'. The band seemed to love every minute of it, as did the fans, and it was a rare treat for those that turned up. A night to remember! more pics NOW UP! |

THE PRIEST IS BACK and THE SCORPION IS KING!!! Well, those that attended the Metro Arena on Sunday had an Easter Sunday never to be forgotten! ('Support band!!!???') The SCORPIONS played a brilliant 65 minute set, with only one new song in it, giving plenty of time to hear some of their old favourites including 'The Zoo' and 'We'll Burn The Sky'. Singer Klaus Meine dancing around the stage giving out the drummers sticks as momentos to those lucky enough to get their hands on them. This was no support band. This was a show on its own...the Scorps' could have played all night, well beyond final encore 'Rock You Like A Hurricane'. "THE
PRIEST IS BACK!" was the cry
from the man in black - Rob Halford
- as JUDAS PRIEST stormed The Metro
Arena. Halford emerges well above the drummer standing on
a on a high tower in front of a massive backdrop of
'Electric Eye' as the band launch in to the song. He
dissappears then re-appears up through the floor of the
platform that surronded the main stage, before a slow
descent down to the stage where a great cheer greeted him
from the massive crowd on his arrival. All night long the
frontman prowlled and stomped, back and forth across the
stage as they played a mix of old ('The Ripper',
'Breaking The Law', 'Victims of Changes') and new tracks
(Judas Rising', 'Revolution', 'Deal With The Devil') from
the new 'Angel Of Retribution' album. The band in great
form and Halfords voice holding out well as it pierced
the vastness of the hall. Brilliant lighting effects,
backdrop changes, flags, stage props...posing! This was
metal at its maximum with the full spectacle of a show
that lasted the best part of two hours. |

LIVE
ROCK FOR CHRISTMAS! Well I didn?t think it could be pulled off, but what a really pleasant surprise, to witness what was a night to behold at The City Hall Newcastle on Friday. Thanks to promoter Mac Francis, with his foresight and belief, three of the regions top bands were given the opportunity to fulfil dreams and ambitions of gracing the same stage as many of their own rock heroes. Iron
Maiden Tribute MAIDEN ENGLAND, AC/DC
tribute BACK IN BLACK and
covers/originals band THE FORCE were the
local bands chosen to be the first (and it won?t be the
last!) |
|
Knowing some members of the three bands quite well, this special gig has always cropped up in conversation, with equal talk of nerves and excitement. The mention of ticket sales would also be raised, and to fill a venue which holds two thousand plus, selling them at a tenner each, was (I thought) going to be problem, considering you could see any of the bands for free at any of the venues across the region. Back In Blacks? Lorne had said ?sales were going well ? and only last week, Phil Thorell from The Force had mentioned " most of downstairs had been sold and they were now selling tickets to cover the balcony ?. A little over excitement and over enthusiasm me thought! |
Turning up at the venue at 6:30pm for a prompt 7pm start I was at first a wee bit concerned that the doors were still closed, but a good crowd had assembled and was queuing around the corner as far back as the stage door. When the doors opened and the hall filled, around half of downstairs was occupied with a smattering of folk talking seats in the upper tier, and I thought that was going to be about it how wrong! |
The first band up after a few words of ?welcome and thanks? from promoter Mac, were MAIDEN ENGLAND and they hit the stage to a huge cheer. |
|
A set comprising of classic Iron Maiden anthems followed. Now, I ain?t going to review any of the bands in depth (anyway most of you were there!) but what was most astonishing was, that when I went up on to the side balcony and looked down on the arena below, was the entire floor and the back upstairs balcony, filled with rock fans of all ages cheering on the band, with arms in the air, punching in unison to songs like ?Aces High? and ?The Evil That Men Do?. Quite breathtaking! |
A quick exit from me down to the bar, just as the band were finishing, and that part of the City Hall was chocka too! Where had all these people come from? A quick pint and the bell sounded telling that the next band was due on stage. |
|
BACK IN BLACK were next up. With Dave (bass), Shaun (rhythm) and Graeme (drums) already playing the opening bars of the first song enters ?Angus? Lorne adorned in school uniform, shortly followed by flat-capped ?Johna? Daz, they launch in to ?Thunderstruck? only to be hit with the only hiccup of the night ? the mic? not switched on. Problem solved the crowd are soon lapping up the band, with Daz having the punters singing along to numbers like ?Touch Too Much?. With Lorne on the go, back and forth across the stage all night, and the superb sound that they had, it was uncanny like the real AC/DC being up there on stage. |
The only problem the band had was, which songs to leave out! |
|
No time for ?Let There Be Rock? but that gave the lads more time for more marvellous renditions, such as ?Hell Ain?t A Bad Place To Be?, ?Stiff Upper Lip? and a brilliant ?Touch Too Much? which again got the crowds vocal chords stretching, and then you had Daz ?playing? each side of the audience off each other during ?High Voltage?. The band had given everything, with the front two band members absolutely drenched in sweat as they left the stage, drowned in the massive applause BACK IN BLACK received from the excellent supporting audience! |
Looking down amongst the crowd there was a lot of unfamiliar faces that I didn?t recognise from the usual local venues around the North East that I regularly visit, and there lies a question. Why can/does a fantastic crowd (1600+) turn out for, yes, a rare but quality night like tonight, but sometimes as few as 11 can only be bothered to turn up and support venues like ?The Duke?? Yes, these three bands do pull in the crowds in their own right, but it?s also the local venues who gave these bands the opportunity to work at, and fine tune their acts. Let?s hope that those witnessing tonight, at what marvellous talent we in the North East have, will be encouraged to get out more and support the local music scene. With the two previous tribute bands, you knew that the crowd would know what they?d be getting. |
|
THE FORCE are not a tribute act, they play covers, and their own original work, and they play it brilliantly well too. Having seen The Force on numerous occasions, the bands' self penned numbers stand up so well on their own, that they are frequently called out to be heard sometimes more often than the covers they do. And this is the stage where all that writing effort should be heard ? Newcastle City Hall. It?s where all bands surely want to perform their own work! It wasn?t the first time that the band had tread those boards (supported Quo fours years back) and I must admit that I thought the band might struggle with playing some originals with many of the crowd maybe not knowing the material. How wrong! |
Opening with self penned ?Jacobs Farm? before launching in to the Rush classic ?Spirit Of Radio? the band were on their finest form and the crowd, which had never dwindled all night, wallowed in the brilliant sound coming from the stage. |
|
The four piece, looked so relaxed up there in the spotlight, with blinding guitar work from both Dave and Phil, driving bass lines from Mick Hunter, and even a solo from drummer Mick, all confident in what they were doing and delivering it all in style to the appreciative crowd. Fans favourites ?Snake? and ?Rainy Days? were played, and the band played ?This Planets On Fire? in a thoughtful tribute to Dimebag Darrell which was a nice touch and was well received. |
And just as I was leaving at what I thought was the end, the night wasn?t at all finished with THE FORCE called back for an encore. ?Lazy Sunday Afternoon? gave the audience another chance to sing along, followed by the final song ?Only You Can Rock Me?. A fitting title for a night in which all three bands, had certainly done so. The night had been a huge success, although the night wasn?t just about the bands. It was also about the tremendous support that all three bands received. It gave the under 18s a rare chance to see what fine talent plays in the area, and hopefully they?ll be inspired to take up an instrument and maybe play the City Hall themselves someday. And it showed too, that rock music is still very much wanted here in the North East just get out there and support it! REMEMBER LIVE ROCK ISN?T JUST FOR CHRISTMAS! |
